End-of-Year Community Strings Concert in Katoomba: A Celebration of Music, Connection and Growth

A warm, musical afternoon for our Blue Mountains community

On Sunday 14 December, from 1:30pm to 3:30pm, our Violin Lessons Katoomba students will come together for a relaxed, heart-centred end-of-year concert at Bursill Lane Studio. Although we call it a “concert”, the spirit of the afternoon is closer to a joyful group rehearsal class — informal, collaborative, and deeply musical. It is one of the highlights of our year.

This event brings together students from across our violin studio, from our youngest “Fiddle Pups” to our developing intermediate players and our emerging cello section. It is a rare chance for students of different ages and experience levels to connect, inspire each other, and feel the supportive energy of playing in a large ensemble.

A hub for creativity in the Blue Mountains

Bursill Lane Studio in Katoomba is a vibrant community space where many local groups rehearse throughout the week — Flamenco, Tango, Hip Hop, and even Strings On Fire. Our violin and cello ensembles add their own colour to this creative environment. The space has become a musical home for our students, a place where curiosity and skill can grow side by side.

A “mega ensemble” full of harmony and heart

For this special end-of-year gathering, our smaller ensembles and group classes will join forces to create one large “mega ensemble”. We will perform the pieces we have been working on throughout the year, including:

• Celtic tunes
• well-loved classical pieces
• a tango or two for added flair
• multi-part arrangements with rich harmonies

The focus is not on perfection, but on joy, participation, and the beautiful sound that emerges when a community of learners plays together.

A nurturing, inspiring musical journey

The afternoon reflects the core values of our studio:
• calm, supportive learning
• nurturing students’ confidence
• fostering teamwork across ages and levels
• creating a warm, spacious environment where music feels natural and expressive

This concert is a gentle milestone for our students — a moment to celebrate their progress and enjoy the shared experience of making music.

Parents, family and community members welcome

This is an open, family-friendly event, and everyone is welcome to attend. Whether your child has just begun violin or has been studying for years, this is a wonderful opportunity to see them shine within a caring musical community.

Looking ahead to 2026

As our studio continues to grow in the Katoomba and Blue Mountains region, events like this help strengthen our ensemble culture and deepen our students’ musical foundations. We look forward to expanding our group classes, developing our ensemble program, and welcoming new violin and cello students in the new year.
